He may swim around alright but big drops in temp can stress them and weaken the immune system which could be why he go fin rot.
I agree with Kiz... I lost a whole tank of bettas because my heater broke and the temp shift (was during a cold night) caused them all to come out in velvet and I lost all 6

Yeah I know varying temps are really bad news. F.Banks is sending me a heater for him. So far my VT seems unaffected by the temp changes but he's older and his immune must be strong, my cousin kept him in untreated regular tap water for a year and he never got sick or anything and his fins are perfect.
There's not much I can do right now. The tank isn't big enough to hold a warm water bottle in it....1/2 the tank has plants in it that go all the way up to the surface, cutting down his breathing area. it would be too hard for him to swim around with a bottle in it. It's only a 2.5 gallon (keeping only 2 gallons in it for more accurate medicine measurements).
But I should have that heater before too long. I just hope the meds help him in the meantime. I'll try to get a decent pic soon...he's been unwilling to stay still when displaying for me.
Meanwhile the VT flares at me if I even look at him, lol. He's got a decent bubble nest (finally) that he's guarding.....sadly it won't last long as he needs a full WC tomorrow. He's not gonna like me very much.

Have you got a heated blanket? On full heat, it heats water up to a nice toasty 26 degrees.

....I hope you mean Celcius because 26 degrees here is below freezing, lol.
And no, I don't have one and if I did it would be way too big :/
Right now I have hole-poked plastic wrap in the tank to help prevent evaporation and try to keep some warmth in there and keep the dust out....it keeps it a tad warmer but not enough.
Right now my primary concern is getting meds for Alpha.

How about a heating pad? Maybe you could borrow one for a few days. I'm ready to go "Postal". Yeah! Sorry for the put off!

Hahaha, it's alright. I replied to your medicine thread......the site I found says I'm *almost* doing the right thing. Tomorrow I'll go back for that other med I passed on, the second extract. It's EXACTLY the same stuff and brand as they speak of in the website.
