Yh. It was a pain to clean though because im only 5'7" and from the floor to the top of the tank is about 6' so i had to use a step ladder to reach the bottom of the tank lol

It looks so much better cleaned up! If I wasn't half way around the world I'd offer to
assist you in fashioning a light hood. My neighbor has a small shop with a table saw and the such. Shipping would cost as much as the materials!

Re: Its here. All 150G of it.
Thanks but like you say bit to far. I can get my hands on all the tools and materials i will need though. I do my work experience at my grandads business that has all the stuff i will need and what makes it evan better it ill be doing it instead of going to school. Im just not sure what the best style of lid will be. It has 3 bracing bars across so any lid will have to be raised a little to fit the light in.

If you put half the thought into the lid as the stocking it'll come out fine. Try to envision any flaws or drawbacks in your design before you start.
27 pages to go! lol!

You've had some different tanks and seen some designs so you should be able to incorporate them into the materials you have available. I'm sure your Grandfather will have some ideas if you arrive at any stumbling blocks.

Re: Its here. All 150G of it.
Yeah he said he will help me out with it. I think i might go for something like what i have on my 30G. Theres glass sliders and then around the top of the glass theres a little rim that over hangs a little over the sliders and the lid sits on them and has hinges in the middle so you just lift up the front half. The only thins is im not sure what would be the best way to do that because the lid needs to be a few " higher than the top of the glass is. Hope that makes scene lol

Re: Its here. All 150G of it.
If I could draw a picture(on the computer) I have an idea. Lot of help I am! lol!
I would think about cutting a plexiglass cover that fits inside the top frame. You could then run it through the table saw lengthwise for a trap door. Attach with a
stainless steel or brass piano hinge. Make a cut out on the backside for the heater and filter lines as needed. Then you can fashion a light that suits your fancy for the top. Just a basic idea!

Yeah thats a good idea. Im not sure if it will be easier to Make glass slider to cover the top and then just make a little support either side of the tank to hold the light. That would probably be the esiest but might not look to great.

Re: Its here. All 150G of it.
Nothing says you can't make temporary one for now and then improve on it later. Even if its a year later! If you do the plexiglass as I suggested you could do the light as temporary, then improve it later when an idea strikes you!
You could even cut a section front to back for the 30gl area and hinge that and have it open towards the center too! The cuts and hinges would resemble an uneven T.
That way you just raise the top on the 30gl. end when just dealing with smaller compartment. Just a thought to confuse you! lol!

If we were sitting down at a table with...a spot of tea...and a sketch pad it would be so much easier, but I'm out of tea! lol!

Re: Its here. All 150G of it.
well ive changed my mind. I decided it would be a shame to divide the tank so im just going to keep the fry in with the other fish. Its a big tank and will have alot of hiding spots so some should make it and if not i can always put a divider in if my lfs need some more and just raise that lot then take it out again.
Im going to go for
2 rotkeil severums (will have to get 4 to start with and wait for 2 to pair)
5 redhead tapajo geos
4 BNs +fry
1 banjo catfish
4 royal whiptail
And a few dithers but im not sure what yet i would like some rainbow fish but i want to keep the tanks as a south american theme.
