Worm-like stuff on the glass.

Anybody know what this is? It's on the sides of my Axolotl tank, has appeared in the last 2 days.
Is it harmful? How do it get rid of it (apart from cleaning the sides of the tank)
Thanks!

Ive seen it a few time but never had it. Its apparently from over feeding and they live in the substrate. There not harmful but obviously dont look that good. The axolotls should munch them up but if not you can clean them off.

Ah ok, I was worried that they were a parasite :/
Thank god they're not!
I'm having a bit of trouble with substrate for my axie tank >_>. It's at less than 1cm deep and still manages to get green spots, even with water changes and disturbing it every day.
New filter I think!

What substrate are you using? How do axolotls do with current? Ive never kept them so dont know but if there ok in it you could try a small powerhead just to get the water moving.

Well, they don't like a strong current, but I've seen them kept with a spray bar.
And I've been using aquaria sand, almost took it all out though.

Fair enough. Ive never used the sand so cant say but ive never had any problems with just standard play sand thats been rinsed through.

If you vacuum the sand, that should stir it up, stopping the 'green' from forming. Otherwise I'd recommend Malaysian Trumpet Snails.

Yeh, I do stir up the sand everyday when I take out bits of poo :/ Really perplexing me how in such a thin layer it can get so bad

Re: Worm-like stuff on the glass.
It must be getting clogged somewhere. I currently have this problem. It's surprising the amount of different life forms in a tank! My tank always looks/looked spotless, however, I saw the other day some detritus caught up in the back corner, amongst the plants. Not being able to get there with a siphon, I pulled the plants out (they needed trimming anyway), so I could get access. Good heavens! That was Saturday. It still hasn't settled lol. I've cleaned both filters out twice already.
Anyway, all of that to say, it might be getting caught somewhere. Do you have a photo of your tank?

Re: Worm-like stuff on the glass.
I currently have a sponge filter in there, which is a bit odd I know :P But my internal failed on me recently. Off out today to get large gravel (way too big for them to swallow) and a new filter (as well as a shelving unit for more tanks :P)
I don't have a picture of how it is now sadly, too embarrassed about the state of it D: They're happy enough and stats are good, it's just so bare :P

Thats could be the problem the sponge filter wont be moving much water which will create dead spots. I would try and get a internal filter and try what time out said get some Malaysian Trumpet Snails because they will shift the sand around stopping dead sports although i dont know if they would become axolotl food.

Well, I've bought an internal filter that has a small spray bar, and so that's now running along side my sponge until it gets matured. I've also taken out the sand and put in large polished stones, seeing how that goes.
I also made another purchase today
Which I'll make a thread about.

Sounds good. It will take about a month for it to mature but it might be worth leaving them both running for a little longer than that just to make sure. Are polished stones aquarium safe?

Yeh they are, it's basically what the gravel is, just larger and smooth.

Can't remember what the wormies are called but I had them once in my tank, they're not dangerous and can provide a snack for your fish
apparently the eggs come in our water supply even though it's chlorinated!
Re: Worm-like stuff on the glass.
Lovely! They're planaria (I think), was just worried they were an aquatic equivalent of gut worms :/
