Depressed :(
It is one thing after another with Ed, my little pastel boy. He was fine for weeks after I got him, very active and always coming to see me.
Then, a chunk went missing from his tail, I think he caught it on something. I didn't worry as it wasn't massive. Then, the tail split halfway down from the tear, then all the way down to his body. It remained this way for about two weeks without regrowth, and I began to worry.
Then, the top half of his tail filled with blood overnight, went stiff, and rotted away in the space of a single day. I assumed that the tissue was dying back in order for new tail growth to occur due to the severity of the split, and added some finrot meds. The next day, the bottom half of the tail just dropped off - no rotting, just came away in one piece. I changed the water to get rid of most of the finrot meds, and started doing twice daily meth blue baths to ensure no fungus took hold on his stump.
A couple of days later, he bit lots of small chunks out of his dorsal and anal fins (definitely bites not finrot). I put in some toys, moved a couple of things round to add interest to the tank, and added a low dose of aquarium salt. Then today, I came in to see he had pineconed and was bloated
I've added some internal bacteria meds and he's maybe deflated a tiny bit, but I'm just getting sick of it.
It really is one thing after another... I don't know what more I can do to help him, the water perameters are fine, and throughout his illness he's been active as normal, up until today when the pineconing appeared, he's been sat atop the filter all day looking sorry for himself.
Grrr

Aww that's awful.
Fingers crossed for the wee fella. Its so frustrating when you get a sickly one that you can't seem to cure, no matter what. x

Re: Depressed :(
This is the thing - he was healthy and happy and more active than any betta I've ever seen. It just seems to have gone downhill since he tore his tail, it's amazing that something as minor as a chunk out of a fin could have kicked it all off and lowered his immunity so much
He's really fighing though... I hope he'll be ok.

Re: Depressed :(
Sorry to hear. Hope he pulls through. MAybe try some bloodwoorm or BS soaked in garlic to help its immune system.

Re: Depressed :(
He has frozen bloodworm, peas with garlic juice, Hikari pellets and a few days ago he had live daphnia, I don't have a routine for swapping the foods round but make sure he has a few different things a week.
I'm fasting him while he's bloated, but I'll definitely try him with some garlic-soaked stuff if he starts to pick up at all.

Re: Depressed :(
He's gone
He was still pineconing but relatively active today about noon, but when I got home from work at ten he was dead
I keep looking at the tank expecting to see him there, he was my favourite and I keep bursting into tears. My boyfriend has buried him under the rose bush in the garden.
