How easy...

Post by Nataliey on Sat Oct 09, 2010 12:21 pm

...is it to make your own tank? Also would it be cheaper than buying a 'ready made tank'? IM only wondering as im wanting a new BIGGER tank but everything on ebay is too far away or just far too expensive.

Has anyone ever made their own tank?

Ive made a little acrylic one before and its easy you just need the right stuff. The hardest bit is getting the glass perfectly in line but even that didint take to long. The one thing i will say is you need alot of silicone it takes alot more than you think it will. What sort of size are we talking? The cheapest way to back a BIG i mean 4-5 foot tank will be ply wood coated in pond paint with a glass front pannel but on smaller tanks it costs bout the same as glass. If its cheaper or not really depends on size again and hom much you can get the glass for. If your looking for a tank about 4' clear seal will probably be the cheapest or a hand made one by ND aquatics.

For that price i would say clear seal or ND aquatics will be around the same price as making one yourself unless you can get glass or ply wood on the cheap side.
