Algae clean up

Algae clean up
I have a horrible hexagon tank and it grows lots of horrible thick greeny/brown algae whether there is light shining in it or not the horrid stuff grows back like wild fire.
So i did a water change and a total clean up of the green stuff, as it grows on everything apart from the fish! I also decided to have a move round in my kitchen...swapping places with the microwave and the tank!
But anyway il stop waffling here's a few photos of the hex tank de-algaed!

Re: Algae clean up
I have an algae problem in my 6G too Natalie. I have to have a massive clean every fortnight, just for the algae. Grr!
I bought 2 moss balls and it hasn't helped the problem any. I've now ordered more in case those 2 weren't enough to do the job.

Re: Algae clean up
I don't know if it is or not hun. My 6G is a rectangle and it has the exact same problem. Its so frustrating to do a big clean then see the stuff growing 2 days later.

Re: Algae clean up
Try mystery snails! I keep one to a tank and they keep everything algae-free except for a little brown algae that collects on my artificial plants. I keep one snail to a tank and they don't reproduce. Plus they're fun to watch. As long as I supplement their diet with veggies like lettuce and spinach, they will not go after live plants either. My bettas seem to like following them around. Good entertainment.

Just don't put more than one mystery snail in the same tank and you won't have a problem with baby snails! Unlike some other snails such as ramshorns, mystery snails are either male or female and need another snail in order to reproduce. The longer I have these snails, the more I enjoy them. Very cute as well as good cleaners.

FIngers crossed the mesh stays clean, it's such an buttpain to clean, especially if it's siliconed in like mine *sigh*. The silk plants look really life like Nat, they look great where are they from?

I'll maybe keep an eye out for some Mystery snails then, though I've never seen them to date!
