High Fin Pleco

Post by 2tall on Sat Dec 18, 2010 4:20 pm

I was at a lfs yesterday and they had a sale on high fin plecos around 2.5". Would 1 or 2 be OK in a
5gl. tank with a Betta? The ph is 6.8 out of the tap and temp is 26c.

I would guess thats another name for a sailfin plec/Pterygoplichthys gibbiceps

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Which can get 18"+ so wouldnt be a good option. IMO the minimum tank size for any plec would be atleast 10G. I think Pygmy corys would be the best option.

Fair enough! I.ll put them on the back burner for the 20gl.. Finally going to
pick up the glass, light and a filter for it next week as I have Thur. and Fri.
off. Whole works $40.

What about Harlequin Rasboras as they are on sale two. Pretty much a store
wide sale happening. Limited selection and no American Cichlids.

Did the plecs look like the ones in the link? Sounds good. Plenty of picks once its up.

A group of 5 would work fine. Shame theres no cichlids.

I found the Pygmys. They have two types. Standard and spotted ones.
Expensive little critters at $5 ea. I'll go for 4 or 5 if at all. Gonna spend
a little on fish or equipment. Better watch myself!

Yeah they are fairly expensive. Both types will work so its just up to which type you prefer.

What about a healthy diet and an occasional treat?

What for the pygmys? They should have a staple of algae wafers with bloodworm, brineshrimp ect as treats

You guessed correctly! Will do if they come home with me. As I'm on the bus and its cold I'll dress extra warm and carry them in by shirt to keep them
warmer.

I'll see what I can do about pictures as I've had no luck. I'll give it another
whirl! I need to learn sometime. I've thought of a couple of things to try.

Lets not get lock out again! lol! I guess I'd better keep things pointed instead of the ramblings!
