Re: Plecos
depends what type. Because they range from a few inches to a few feet long anywhere from 5-1000s can be laid.

Re: Plecos
I was looking at the Zebras again. Oh I do covet them. I'll have to look at
more and research. I already found out its a 5-20 and they don't breed until three years old. Is that typical? I did read that the longer the lifespan the
longer the wait. I suppose that holds true for most. Just a quick guess.

Re: Plecos
Zebras are know for having very small spawns part of the reason they have the £75+ price tag i think abou 5-10 is normal. Im not sure on breeding age but i have the feeling it is quite old. Im not sure on life span but IMO if your going to get some its best to have a species only tank with 4-5 zebras and breed them because they dont do well in community's and if your going to put that much money into them IMO you may aswell try breeding.

Re: Plecos
Since I haven't bred any fish whats so ever I won't be starting with Zebras.
I may be daft, but not so daft that I'd try them first time around. Besides I
have a few years to learn anyway.
I may just select a different pleco that doesn't take so long to mature if thats
possible and use my 20gl. long for a species only tank. I'll start cycling it next
week as the 5gl. seems to have cycled correctly as ammonia & nitrites are
at zero.
My paycheck arrived and I'm off to my mini fish quest! See ya!

Re: Plecos
Yeah probably not the best place to start.
If you want something to breed and gain some good experience from BNs would be a great starting point.
Cya let me know if you come back with anything.

Re: Plecos
I did come back with four Pygmy Corys. I can't remember the name
except it started with a M. He said that they basically were marbled,
but they do have a horizontal stripe. They are only about 1cm. long.
I got a food called Algae Grazers by HBH for all algae eaters. I also have
frozen brine shrimp, daphnia and blood worms.
They seem happy, eating and buzzing around exploring their new digs. Energetic little scouts they are!

Re: Plecos
Sounds nice. Not 100% sure on the type though theres only 3 types of pygmys
corydoras hastatus
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
corydoras habrosus
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
corydoras pygmaeus
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Food sounds good. There alot more active than most corys and unlike other they will happily swim round in mid water once they settle in.

I'm thinking they are the habrosus, but I'll take another gander when I
turn the light on in a few hours. I anxious to see if they survived their
first night with me!

Re: Plecos
My worries are over as they made it through the night. They are buzzing
around like hornets on a piece of salami! Quick little ones! Happy I got them.
Think I'll get the other varieties when I can for two of the other compartments.

Re: Plecos
Glad they made it.
They are great little fish and add alot to a betta tank. Theres 2 other compartments? It would look great if you could get a group of all 3 types and have them all side by side

Re: Plecos
If I did that I'd have to use the 20gl. long and thats not happening right
off anyway. I'm thinking the Red Acura or maybe back to the rams. Maybe
a small variety of some pleco as a species only tank.
All set up to meet the gal with the cover, light and filter next Thursday. I
have the money and the day off. I have two four day weekends coming
up and I plan on fish research.

Re: Plecos
Fair enough.
Sounds good whatever you go for. The plec species tank would be a good idea IMO if you went for something fairly easy to breed but a little bit different maybe something like a clown plec.
Sounds good, for research on general fish i would use seriously fish
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
and for catfish planetcatfish

I could flank the 5gl. tank with two divided 10's in a U shape. I just measured the top of a cabinet and it
is feasible. Worth considering IMO.

Sounds good. if you decorate the tanks so they looked like they flowed through all by having bits of wood that look like they go from tank to tank i think it would look good.

Re: Plecos
That would be novel. Like what KJ did with a divided tank.
