Switching Out Tanks!

Post by 2tall on Wed Jan 05, 2011 10:21 pm

I want to switch my 10gl. with another nicer one. I have both an under gravel filter and a external H.O.B.
style. If I keep the the gravel and filter submersed in the water will it be alright for a quick change out
without effecting the bacteria as to lose the cycle?

Should be fine as long as the filter isn't switched off for more than a couple of hours or allowed to get dry Smile

Thanks KJ!

It should be just a matter of a few minutes. I'll probably due a
good sized wc at the same time.

Aslong as it doesnt dry it will be fine. You could leave it for a good few hours out of water before its affected. If its going to be more than 12 hours i would put some source of ammonia in with it.

More realistically no more than an hour. It'll be fairly quick as I'll be all set
to go with it.

If its only for that long it will be fine in a bucket. Just make sure to use old tank water.
