64 litre tank ideas.

Post by Irish_Lass on Sun Jan 23, 2011 3:55 pm

Ok, as you know I have 2 SAP's in my 64 litre tank. I intend to upgrade them shortly but now I need ideas/suggestions for the 64 litre tank. I would like it to be a community tank with plenty of colour (and character if possible). Smile

Theres loads of options that could work. if i was me i would go for
3 Dicrossus filamentosus/Lyretail Checkerboard Cichlid or Sparkling gourami (1 Male, 2 Females. These will be the centre piece)
8 Pygmy corys
10 Tetras/Rasbora/Barbs ect. I would go for a type of Boraras if you can find them something like Boraras maculatus or Boraras brigittae or Galaxy rasbora or Ember tetra.

The Boraras, Rasboras, Tetras and Corys will all stay under 1" but colour full and active so should have a nice look in the tank. The Cheackerboard cichlids and Sparkling gourami get to about 6-8cm so will be a nice centre piece and are very colourful and have lots of character.

Or you could go for
2 German blue, Gold or Electric blue rams
15 Cardinal tetra or Rummynose tetra

I would prefer rams. Gouramis just don't do it for me. If you remember I've been lusting after the German Blue rams for an eternity! Smile

Fair enough. If you want Blue rams the temp will need to be set to 28-30C. You would be best to get 4 and wait for 2 to pair up then get rid of the other 2 because just a male and a female wont always pair up.

If it was me i would go for
4 GBR
16 Boraras brigittae or 9 Endlers (3 males 6 females) The endlers will breed but you shouldnt get over run because the rams are likely to pick of most of them and i know it seems harsh but they will be a great source of food and theres a food chance the rams will breed with a diet of alot of live food.

Go for the Rams Irish! They are one of the fish on my wishlist! That way I
can enjoy yours until I can set up a cichlid tank! lol!

By the way how have you been?

I've been good, thanks Dave. Smile Work has been really busy lately but its starting to level out now. Just planning a holiday to NYC later on in the year too. Excited! Smile

Kiz, can I just keep the 4? There are no lps or lfs around here that take back fish to my knowledge.

20G is to small for 4 IMO, the pair will be very aggressive towards the other 2 and are likely to seriously hurt or even kill the other 2 if kept together.

And is the only issue with just getting 2 the fact that they may not pair?

You might be aright if your sure you get 2 female or 1 male and 1 female but 2 males will definitely be problems.

I found my last SAP dead this morning. I'm so disappointed. Sad
I'm going to give the tank a massive clean and set it up again so I need to start thinking about fish again.
