Hey, guys
You've probably have seen me on bettafish.com,ultimatebettas,bettabred,bettas4all so you know I'm into bettas already
just wanted to say hi and introduce myself I'll be glad to post some pics of my bettas when I have the time I like to take everyones advice I'm 11 and trying to breed bettas but my family supports me and I'm not one of those people who likes to act like a
and not listen. I will take everyones advice happily. I've been trying to breed bettas for a while I haven't got the fry to live yet but just got the microworms, banana worms ect. and right now conditioning the adults with brine shrimp and buying disease free california black worms. Most people treat me as a young adult which I am...........12 so like I said I like bettas I keep them in mason jars but upgrading to halfgallons so don't critisize me
anyway I'm goof with betta genetics I've been in the betta hobby for a year and before that a year bujt got back into it along my way I have read alot! But I'm still learning
your friend,
Ethan

Re: Hey, guys
Welcome Ethan
how many bettas have you got? I'd recommend going larger than a half gallon with their new homes, it's not enough really and a bit more space is always better.
That's a very pretty fish in your avatar, unusual colouring!

Re: Hey, guys
Don't worry, points are good! They're a reward for being active on the forum.
The divided tank sounds like a great idea, and the rack sounds good too. I keep four of my boys in a divided tank. It's actually better for the fish to live in one large amount of water that's divided, rather than lots of small tubs of water, as it means the water chemistry is a lot more stable and reduces the risk of ammonia poisoning or temperature fluctuation.
I can't believe your dad lets you have so many! At your age I had a smelly 18" tank with two very cramped large goldfish in it because I did not know about cycling or stocking, so I think it's great for someone so young to be taking a real interest in caring for their fish and learning about their physiology and genetics.

Re: Hey, guys
thanks guys for the welcomes again
thanks KalandraJane I love bettas and there genetics fascinate me how big were your goldfish? I've heard if they stay in small containers there organs get to large and they die is this true? I think an 18 gallon is pretty big were they full grown when you had them?

Re: Hey, guys
Not 18 gallon, 18 inch! They were about 8" long and had come from the fair when they were about 1.5 inches... so I guess they lived considerably longer than a lot of fair goldfish, but this was before kids went on the internet and my mum didn't see fit to encourage me to read up on cycling because she didn't know herself. The last one lived with my mum right up until a few of years ago, obviously the tank was cycled by then and he was about twelve years old.
No, their organs don't grow disproportionately to their bodies, the reason they die in small containers is due to ammonia or nitrate poisoning usually because of having too small a filter or not being cleaned out often enough. I guess if you kept a huge fish in a tiny container but kept the water scrupulously clean it could theoretically survive a long time, but would probably die from the stress of confinement anyway.

Re: Hey, guys
Hi Im 14 yo. And you are so very lucky having 29 betta's. I only have one vt (I'm no new to betta keeping as I have had bettas for 2 yrs nearly and have researched a lot about them) my parents don't let me have any more and I too want to breed but I'm getting 2 rats (i hope) so I doubt I will be able to get another for a while.
