Detoxifier

Post by 2tall on Thu Mar 10, 2011 3:28 pm

I used a detoxifier(Amquel) on a tank that had a high (80ppm) nitrate level. I understand that doesn't remove the nitrates but renders the test useless in the future. Does the detoxifier remain present and continually effective or dissapate in time? If so, how soon?

The bound nitrates will need to be removed with water changes, any reading you get for nitrate will be artificially low.

Thanks KJ. I will be doing a complete wc in a day or so as a I change out my
substrate and do the planting. A few more rinses of the sand and another day
of the soil airing out I'll be planting!
