Gourami question!

Post by emeleeliggett on Fri May 29, 2009 5:59 pm

Does anyone have a good picture of a honey/sunset/yellow dwarf gourami male and female? I've looked online and other forums but they are never the right type.

I have a definite male with the blue/black stripe running down the underside of his body but the other one is still getting colors. I wonder if it's a juvenile male or female? But it is so much plainer than the bigger boy.

Any help? They are not like betta where they will sit still and pose for the camera, they dart so fast every picture I have is a blur!!

Here's the unknown! It is much duller than this, my camera makes it seem orange and it's more a dull yellow!

Before you say anything, I have resized the second picture three times and the head still goes off the page. I apologize, hopefully you can identify the other fish without seeing the head of my male gourami!!

Thanks and sorry!!

I used to keep Gourami and it looks like a female to me, but Im not an expert! I understand that often females are slightly smaller than males as well , Juvenile male Honey's tend to have an orange tinge to the base of the anal fin, (the outside edge that is) males who lack black are still distinctly orange in most cases as you say it is actually yellow I would say female Wink

Okay, thanks! The people at the store could not give me a def answer either. I also think it's female because the belly is starting to get roundish... the male is much slimmer... :D

females in gourami seem to be less colourful than the males, and will have bigger tummys

Yeah I'm pretty sure it's a male and female now! The duller one is getting pretty fat around the middle and they keep chasing each other then pausing to see if they are being followed. It all looks like flirting to me! :D I know if they do mate the babies won't survive in a community tank but it's interesting to watch their courtship all the same! It's so different from the bite and chase bettas do!
